The not-so-secret dream of everyone who’s ever tried to shed extra weight is that they could do so just by popping a pill. “What I hear most from my clients is that they want something easy, a quick fix,” says Dee Sandquist, RD, a spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association based in Portland, Ore. “They all want that magic pill—but there isn’t one.” Dieters could be forgiven for thinking there might be a simple solution, though, with the hundreds of products out there claiming to offer a slimmer, leaner body in a bottle of colorful capsules.

Here’s a look at six common myths about diet supplements. Once you’ve learned the truth behind each, you’ll be on your way to a better, healthier path to lasting weight loss. View the slideshow.

I like this story and agree with many of the comments made. We have to be careful which diet pills we take. There are a lot of dangerous stuff freely available. While some supplements may help (I have been using CLA and Chromium for years without any side-effects), the best way to lose weight is still to follow a healthy diet and get some exercise. I track my daily food intake, exercise and progress in weight loss on OptimalBodyWeight.com. It is free and tells me all I need to know, for example the my calorie intake as well as my fat, carb and protein balance.

I liked this article, slideshow. I agree that there is no magic pill for healthy and quick weight loss. I also agree that diet and exercise are both important keys to successful weight loss.

I do feel though that there are natural supplements that can support effective weight loss — ones that do not cause jitters or side effects. There is an informative article called The Big Calm and the Science of the New Thermogenesis that describes healthy fat-burning without stimulants. The weight loss program Perfect Weight America is a good example of a healthy weight loss program that combines healthy eating, exercise and natural, non-stimulant nutritional supplements to support healthy weight loss over time. One of the key nutritional supplements is called FucoThin by Garden of Life. FucoTHIN is a natural, whole-food based supplement that is made with a proprietary concentration of fucoxanthin (from brown seaweed) combined with pomegranate seed oil that is naturally thermogenic (fat burning). It supports the metabolism or breakdown of fat in white adipose tissue, including belly fat. FucoTHIN does not stimulate the central nervous system and will not cause jitters or a loss of sleep.
