I too have (J)RA. I've had it for 27 years. How Do you walk for 30 minutes when you can hardly move because you're in so much pain?

That's what I want to know.

Eat, Eat, Eat yes Eat. Start with the most important meal BREAKFAST! Take vitamins and have a healthy breakfast of oat meal or whole grain cereal. Have a protein snack about 10:00 am, eat a sensible lunch with some fruit, a lite snack about 2:30 or 3 (I eat peanut butter crackers). Then eat a dinner as soon as you can around 5 or 6. Don't eat late. Take a 30 minute walk and presto in a few weeks you'll see the pounds slip away. If the body gets used to being feed it won't store as much fat. Eat lots of protein in your meal it will keep you full.

When eating out, you have to be very assertive, specific and not make any assumptions. Our daughter is very health conscious, too and is usually disappointed because although she's pretty detailed about food prep, there's a surprise at the other end. For example, asking for no mayo does not mean you don't get butter.

We have always been low fat eaters and go with healthy substitutes. But when dining out, if you don't tell them exactly what you want, they'll give you exactly what they have!

Being conscious about diet is important if you are interested in losing weight. What often goes unrecognized is why people tend to over-eat or choose foods to sabotage their progress. Emotions and stress play a big roll in the weight loss process. Dr. Deb

Your comment was spot-on about having the doggie bag/box ready at the BEGINNING of your meal. Now that I've reduced my portion sizes, I often get up to 3-4 meals out of 1 huge restaurant entree. (My own yummy version of "Pay It Forward!") Not only does that make you feel better about ordering a pricey item, but it also ensures you have tummy-room for dessert as your reward! If you wait until some of your meal has been eaten, it's harder to estimate when you've eaten half of it.

Here's a great green tip. Instead of requesting (and waiting for) a less-recyclable restaurant container, I bought each of my family an appropriately sized plastic container that stores by snapping onto its own lid. These stack nicely into a tote bag that lives in my car's back seat, waiting for the next outing so I don't forget to grab them on our way out. It totes nicely into the restaurant without drawing attention. These are large enough so I don't scrunch up my leftovers, like I often must do with the restaurant containers.

I mean WTF?- You don't go to a restaurant, to have your meal packed up lol That defies the whole purpose of goin for a meal!!!

People seriously, eat what you want, but do exercise and you won't get fat!!!

Thank you for these fantastic, simple yet, outside-of-the-box suggestions. They are great plays on the regular, "you can have a taste but not the whole thing; halve your normal portions; plan your meals..." I will share these with my clients.
